SpotOptics wavefront sensors are based on the Shack-Hartmann principle
SpotOptics wavefront sensor based instruments using the Shack-Hartmann principle can measure the optical quality of a large sample of different optical surfaces: from DVD lenses with diameter of a few millimeters to astronomical telescopes with diameters of several meters. Our first wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle was developed for the test of mirrors of astronomical telescopes for the 3.5m Galileo Telescope Project in Italy. The wavefront sensor was developed and made both for the Galileo project and the European Southern Observatory (Munich, Germany) and was ready in 1992.
Our wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle for astronomy, Puntino, is now operative on several telescopes around the world. We have been consultants for a number of observatories and firms (including Zeiss) for the alignment and quality control of telescopes. Thus, Puntino, our wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle, has been also mounted and used on several additional telescopes in Europe, Africa, Asia and USA.
While Puntino, wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle, has been developed specially for astronomical telescopes, we have several other wavefront sensors:
- Optino, wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle, is especially made for optical tests in the laboratory
- Laserino, wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle, is for the test of lasers
- Lentino, wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle, has been specially developed for testing aspherical lenses and camera lenses
- Sfera, wavefront
sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann
principle, has been specially
developed for testing mobile
cellular phone lenses
General characteristics of our Shack-Hartmann Wavefront Sensor Systems.
- The hardware is complete, and comes with its own source of calibration light.
- No special conditions are required, as the instrument is very insensitive to vibrations.
- Instrument setup + Optical setup + Shack-Hartmann test is performed in a matter of minutes.
- The analysis software is Sensoft. A highlight of Sensoft is the very extensive Help. Detailed information of all the essential aspects of optics, with detailed figures and explanations, are available at your fingertips.
Some important features of our wavefront sensors
- All the wavefront sensors (Shack-Hartmann Wavefront Sensor Systems) use our special grid (lenslet array) that has been very carefully designed to give the optimum balance between dynamic range and sampling on the pupil
- We believe that no other wavefront sensor company offers as many hardware and software options as we do
- We give you complete wavefront solutions based on Shack-Hartmann principle (including accessories): in most cases, you do not have to go elsewhere for buying accessories etc., saving you, your valuable time.
The modularity of our software and hardware allows us to satisfy, with reasonable effort, any special request from our customers

Four wavefront sensors models to cover different needs
Omi wavefront sensor
This is the basic low-cost system wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle
Optino Uno wavefront sensor
This is the basic wavefront sensor system based on the Shack-Hartmann principle , with a fixed collimator for the light source. It has all the basic functions you will need for optical analysis, including a fiber-optic light source
Optino Professional Version
(Optino Pro wavefront sensor)
Like Optino Easy Sensor, wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle ,but with a motorized collimator and advanced software functions, and a higher degree of automation
Optino Engineering Version
(Optino EE wavefront sensor)
Like Optino Pro, wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle , but with more advanced software fetaures and optimized for the manufacturing environment. It can be used in a feed back loop, and can make a measurement of the optical quality with a frequency of about 10 Hz
Optino+ Beam profiler
Like Optino Pro, wavefront sensor based on the Shack-Hartmann principle ,but with a second camera that works as built-in beam-profiler. Laser beam aberrations and characterization can be obtained with the same instrument
