Padova is located in the Veneto area, North-East of Italy. It is about forty minutes drive from Venice airport and two hours train ride from Milan.
SpotOptics was founded in 1996 in Padova, with focus on Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensors and their applications to the R&D and industrial world.

The University of Padova has a strong scientific tradition.
Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was a professor of Mathematics (Geometry & Astronomy) at the University of Padova from 1592 to 1610
At the end of 1609 Galileo used an improved version of the new instrument telescope ( invented in the Netherlands) and observed the Moon and the 4 Jupiter's satellites (Europa, Io, Ganimede and Callisto)
At the beginning of 1610 Galileo observed the 3 rings of Saturn
Nicholas Copernicus attended the University as a student from 1501 to 1503.
