Galileo Galilei & Padova

The University of Padova has a strong scientific tradition.

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was a professor of Mathematics (Geometry & Astronomy)  at the University of Padova from 1592 to 1610

At the end of 1609 Galileo used an improved version of the new instrument telescope ( invented in the Netherlands) and observed the Moon and the 4  Jupiter's satellites (Europa, Io, Ganimede and Callisto)

At the beginning of 1610  Galileo observed the 3 rings of Saturn

Nicholas Copernicus attended the University as a student from 1501 to 1503.
